Careers

Build your career with Paraphoenix

Paraphoenix Solicitors is building a commercial law firm for businesses operating in an increasingly connected world.

We want to work with people who combine intellectual rigour with commercial judgement; who value integrity and collaboration; and who understand that excellent legal work is ultimately measured by how clearly and effectively it helps a client make decisions.

As the firm grows, we intend to create opportunities for lawyers, future lawyers and business-services professionals who want to contribute to the development of a modern, internationally minded Nigerian law firm.

The firm we are building

High standards. Commercial perspective. Shared responsibility.

Paraphoenix is being built around a simple proposition: sophisticated legal advice should be technically rigorous, commercially relevant and delivered with discipline.

That principle shapes both our client work and the professional environment we want to create.

We value people who take ownership of their work, communicate clearly, exercise sound judgement and recognise that collaboration is a professional strength. We expect careful preparation, attention to detail and respect for the responsibilities that come with advising clients on important matters.

We also believe that modern lawyers should understand the businesses and industries they advise, remain curious about technology and regulatory change, and be comfortable working across disciplines and jurisdictions.

What we value

The qualities we associate with a Paraphoenix professional

  • 01

    Intellectual rigour

We expect careful analysis, precise drafting and a willingness to engage seriously with difficult legal and commercial questions.

  • 02

    Commercial judgement

Legal analysis should help the client decide what to do. We value people who can distinguish material risk from theoretical risk and communicate practical options clearly.

  • 03

    Integrity

Professional independence, confidentiality, ethical judgement and respect for the rule of law are fundamental to the way we practise.

  • 04

    Client service

Responsiveness matters, but so do reliability, clarity, preparation and an understanding of the client's objectives.

  • 05

    Collaboration

Complex matters are rarely solved by one person. We value colleagues who share knowledge, listen carefully and work constructively with clients, advisers and each other.

  • 06

    International perspective

We are interested in people who can work confidently in a Nigerian context while understanding how transactions, regulation and business operate across borders.

  • 07

    Disciplined execution

Good ideas must be translated into accurate documents, clear advice and dependable delivery.

The lawyer we want to develop

Technically strong. Commercially aware. Internationally minded.

The Paraphoenix lawyer should be more than a technically competent legal adviser.

We want to develop lawyers who can understand a client’s business model, identify the issues that genuinely matter, analyse complex legal questions, draft with precision and explain their conclusions in language that senior decision-makers can use.

We do not expect every lawyer to arrive with all of these capabilities fully developed. We do expect curiosity, commitment to improvement and a willingness to take responsibility for professional growth.

  • Strong legal analysis and research.
  • Clear, precise and disciplined drafting.
  • Commercial understanding and sound risk judgement.
  • Confidence in communicating with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Project and matter-management discipline.
  • Awareness of technology, data and the changing delivery of legal services.
  • Ability to work across cultures, jurisdictions and professional disciplines.
  • Professional integrity, independence and accountability.

Working at Paraphoenix

A professional environment built around meaningful contribution

At Paraphoenix, we want people to understand how their work contributes to the wider matter and the client’s objective.

As the firm develops, our approach to work and professional development will be guided by close involvement in substantive matters, thoughtful supervision, constructive feedback, knowledge sharing and increasing responsibility as capability develops.

We intend to maintain a working culture in which quality is taken seriously without unnecessary hierarchy, and where colleagues are expected to contribute ideas, exercise judgement and support the collective standard of the firm.

Specific employment terms, benefits, working arrangements, development programmes and progression structures will be communicated for individual roles as they are established.

Career pathways

Three future pathways as the firm develops

Lawyers

Commercial lawyers who want to make an impact

As Paraphoenix grows, we expect to consider lawyers with experience or developing interests across our core Practices and Industries.

We will be particularly interested in lawyers who combine strong Nigerian legal capability with commercial awareness, excellent drafting and communication, and an interest in sophisticated corporate, finance, energy, projects, technology, regulatory, international or disputes work.

Experience working with multinational businesses, regulated industries, financial institutions, investors or complex commercial transactions may be relevant, but professional judgement, quality of thinking and capacity to develop will remain central.

Where no specific vacancy is advertised, expressions of interest may be considered in accordance with the application process published by the firm.

Early Careers

Building strong foundations for future commercial lawyers

Paraphoenix intends, as the firm develops, to create opportunities for talented early-career lawyers and aspiring legal professionals who demonstrate strong academic foundations, intellectual curiosity, integrity and commercial awareness.

Our future early-career proposition should focus on developing the habits that underpin excellent practice: rigorous research, precise drafting, clear communication, careful matter management, professional responsibility and an understanding of how legal advice supports business decisions.

Any internships, trainee opportunities, graduate recruitment programmes or structured early-career schemes will be advertised only when formally established.

Business Services

Building the platform behind excellent legal work

A modern law firm depends on more than lawyers. Finance, operations, technology, knowledge, business development, marketing, people management and administrative support all contribute to the quality of the client experience.

As Paraphoenix grows, we may recruit business-services professionals who are attracted to building systems and capabilities within a developing professional-services organisation.

Relevant opportunities will be published when available.

Technology & the future of legal work

Using technology with judgement

Technology will continue to change how legal research, drafting, knowledge, project management and client service are delivered.

Paraphoenix intends to use technology thoughtfully: to improve quality, consistency, efficiency and access to knowledge while preserving professional judgement, confidentiality, security and accountability.

We therefore value lawyers and professionals who are curious about technology, comfortable learning new tools and able to think critically about when technology improves legal work and when human judgement remains essential.

Learning & professional development

Development through responsibility, feedback and deliberate practice

Professional development is most effective when formal learning is reinforced by substantive work, careful supervision and constructive feedback.

As the firm grows, our development approach will be designed around the capabilities required for excellent commercial practice: legal analysis, drafting, negotiation, communication, commercial judgement, matter management, ethics, technology and client service.

The precise form of training and development initiatives will evolve with the firm. We will describe specific programmes publicly only when they have been established.

Equal opportunity & professional respect

Paraphoenix intends to make recruitment and professional-development decisions on the basis of merit, capability, potential, professional standards and the requirements of the role, subject to applicable law.

We want a professional environment in which colleagues are treated with dignity and respect and in which different experiences and perspectives can contribute to better judgement and stronger client service.
